Sound Systems and Intercom Systems: SSIS: AS 3745-2010: Emergency Plan

SA - Emergency Plan advises that Sound Systems and Intercom Systems (SSIS) for emergency purposes, Emergency Warning and Intercommunication Systems (EWIS) and Occupant Warning Systems (OWS) may be available to aid the occupants of a building in an emergency. The emergency response procedures will specify the use of these SSIS, EWIS and OWS systems during emergencies. It is important that the Emergency Control Organisation and in particular the Communications Officer (if appointed), Chief Warden and deputy Chief Warden understand the capabilities of these SSIS, EWIS and OWS systems and know how to operate them during an emergency… (more) Work Health Safety

Sound Systems and Intercom Systems

AUST – The Building Code of Australia requires high rise buildings to have a sound system and intercom system (SSIS) complying with AS 1670.4-2004 ‘Fire detection, warning, control and intercom systems – System design, installation and commissioning – Sound systems and intercom systems for emergency purposes’, for emergency purposes. This installation is required by the Building Code of Australia when the building height exceeds 25m in effective height. Sound and Intercom Systems (SSIS) – Emergency Plan

AUST - Emergency Plan advises that the Building Code of Australia (BCA) requires high-rise buildings to have sound system and intercom systems (SSIS) for emergency purposes. The installation is required by the BCA when the building height exceeds 25m in effective height and a number of other criteria for class 3, 9a and 9b buildings. Previous to SSIS, the sound systems and intercom systems were known as emergency warning and intercommunication systems (EWIS). Either SSIS or EWIS would be nominated by a building surveyor or building certifier in an essential safety measures determination/ schedule. Building Code of Australia The Building Code of Australia
